JWS snaps up ex-Clayton Utz national tax head Peter Feros

Johnson Winter Slattery (JWS) has lured former Clayton Utz national tax head Peter Feros to its partnership.

Feros will lead JWS’ tax group. He has worked with listed Australian and foreign corporates and domestic and foreign funds, providing front-end strategic income tax advice on M&A and fund structuring matters.

He has tackled issues in the mining, professional services, property, technology and financial services sectors. He has also assisted companies, administrators and creditors with the tax aspects of insolvency-related situations.

Feros advised Wyloo Consolidated on its $760m on-market takeover offer for Mincor Resources NL. He also advised Infrabuild Australia on the tax aspects of its US$350m high-yield bond offering.

He helped Myer with the tax aspects of its ~$850m merger with Premier Investment Limited’s Apparel Brands business. Moreover, he worked with Ainsworth Game Technology Limited on the tax aspects of the pitched Novomatic AG takeover.

Feros guided Mandalay Resources on the tax aspects of its ~$1bn merger with Alkane Resources. He also assisted a Macquarie and Brookfield consortium with regards to the tax considerations of Quadrant Energy’s US$2.15bn to Santos Limited.

He worked on the acquisition of ConocoPhillips’ Australia-West and East Timorese assets and operations by Santos Limited in a deal valued at US$1.39bn. Other clients have included Tattarang, BGH Capital, Tianqi Lithium Corporation and Heineken International B.V.

Feros will lead a six-partner group at JWS. He is based in Sydney.
