A 170-room hotel will soon rise in Brisbane with the firm's help
A 170-room hotel will rise at a new precinct in Brisbane with the help of Colin Biggers & Paisley.
The firm advised the Pellicano and Perri Projects joint venture on its agreements with Hyatt Hotels for the opening of a 170-room hotel in the $700m South City Square precinct, which is just about two kilometres southeast of the Brisbane CBD.
Hyatt’s return to Brisbane comes after several other high-end boutique hotels also entered the Brisbane market. The resurgence shows that the hotel industry is fighting back against competitors such as Airbnb, Colin Biggers & Paisley said.
The firm’s team was headed by Duane Keighran, partner and head of hotels, tourism, and hospitality. Titling and development aspects of the deal were handled by Georgia Arya, special counsel; Rhett Oliver, partner and head of property; and Julia Hewitt, senior associate.
Keighran said that the team is also acting for Pellicano and Perri Projects on all aspects of the South City Square development. The firm looks forward to advising on all related matters until the project’s completion, the settlement of all apartment sales, and the leasing of all retail and commercial spaces.
“The transaction posed particularly interesting issues given the mixed use nature of the project and the complex titling arrangements, which we were able to navigate successfully by working closely with our client’s development team, and by calling upon the historical experience our integrated legal team possessed by working on this development for some time,” Keighran said.
