KWM launches new global business executive program
King & Wood Mallesons, the KWM Foundation and KWM Academy has announced a new partnership with Peking University to help develop new-era legal professionals and business executives.

The PKU-KWM Global Legal and Business Executive Program will begin in October and is open to participants around the world. The initial focus will be “Future Leaders”; and “Belt & Road” which will help boost understanding of China’s national policies and systems.

“GLBE is a response to a global environment, where the future of humanity and the art of global governance are intimately intertwined. It provides a progressive and multi-faceted platform to support the development of future leadership in law and business,” said KWM global chair Wang Junfeng.

Legal services demand high but firms face challenges
Improving operation efficiency is vital to drive profits at modern law firms according to a new study.

The Business of Law and Legal Technology Survey from software firm Aderant has revealed the top five challenges facing law firms: pricing pressure, improving operational efficiency, winning new business, growing more business from existing customers, and improving law firm agility and adaptability.

While improving it may be considered a challenge, operation efficiency is also ranked as an opportunity to gain an edge on the competition.

“Many of the challenges facing law firms are interdependent – pricing and growth in a competitive environment are related to a firm’s capacity to efficiently deliver quality legal services,” says Aderant Executive Vice President Chris Cartrett. “These challenges are the driving forces behind the evolution of the agile law firm, which means building the capacity to meet dynamic client demands without stressing internal systems.”

The study was conducted in June 2017 among 100 respondents from US law firms.
