The restructuring specialist brings with him an associate from his former firm
Gadens has appointed James Roland as partner in Sydney.
Roland returns to the national firm from TurksLegal, where he has been a partner since 2014. Before TurksLegal, he was a senior legal counsel at National Australia Bank, where he moved to after a brief stint as senior associate in Gadens in 2009.
Roland, who has also worked at Corrs Chambers Westgarth, legacy Blake Dawson, and Linklaters, is a specialist in all areas of corporate restructuring, banking, and insolvency law.
He joins Gadens’ banking and finance team with associate Clementine Woodhouse.
“With 20 years’ experience advising secured lenders in relation to managing corporate loan exposures, including refinancing and restructuring transactions, informal workouts, all forms of insolvency administration and enforcement, James will play a prominent role in helping to lead and grow our banking, insolvency and restructuring practice, particularly in the Sydney market,” said Grant Scott-Hayward, Gadens’ CEO. “Through his career, James has advised on a number of high-profile and complex insolvency and restructuring matters. His expertise will complement existing capabilities across our firm and enhance our specialist offerings for clients.”
Roland said he moved to the firm because of its strategic focus; united and collaborative culture; and its strong, well-positioned banking, insolvency, and restructuring practice.
Gadens recently opened its new office in Sydney at a prime location in Circular Quay. Scott-Hayward said then that at least seven new partners would be joining the firm in Sydney in the next few weeks. It has been adding senior lawyers in Sydney and in Brisbane in the recent months.
The firm said its new hires in Sydney will join the corporate advisory; property; banking, insolvency and restructuring; employment advisory; and commercial litigation and disputes groups.
