The real estate expert joins from another global rival to lead his own team from Sydney

Clyde & Co looks to rival for new practice head

Clyde & Co has officially welcomed Cameron Thomson to the partnership from Norton Rose Fulbright (NRF).

He will lead a non-contentious real estate practice, which complements the firm’s existing client base in the Asia-Pacific region, the global firm said.

Clyde & Co said that the firm’s projects and construction team in Australia, led by partner David McElveney, has already built a strong practice focused on contentious matters. The firm also has a strong projects and construction group in Singapore, Hong Kong, and China, as well as a dedicated Asia-Pacific hospitality team led by partner Benjamin Hisawara.

"Those capabilities, along with the firm's extensive footprint in the region, made establishing a dedicated non-contentious real estate practice in Australia the next logical step," said McElveney.

Thomson, who will be based in Sydney, was first reported in October to be serving his notice period as the NRF’s merger with legacy Henry Davis York was nearing.

Thomson, who specialises in real estate, has more than 20 years’ experience in both Australian and regional matters. He also deals with investors from China, Southeast Asia, and North Asia.

He has a particular focus on commercial property portfolios, divestments and acquisitions, leases and licences, linear infrastructure projects, development projects, joint ventures,  working with receivers and managers, and “off the plan” projects. His practice supports government, corporate real estate and inbound investor clients.
