Clayton Utz aids largest company to list this year on the ASX
Clayton Utz has assisted Kirkland Lake Gold, the largest company to list this year on the ASX.

“At approximately CAD$3.84bn (or $3.93bn), it has the distinction of being the largest company by market capitalisation to list on ASX this year,” said partner Brett Cohen.

The Perth-based partner led the firm’s advisory team with special counsel Liz Humphry. They were supported by lawyers Milana Drca and Georgia Denny.

The listing last month came a year after Kirkland’s merger with Toronto Stock Exchange-listed Newmarket Gold. It also marks Clayton Utz continuing its work for Kirkland Lake Gold, which it advised on the merger as it acquired Newmarket Gold’s Australian assets.

Kirkland Lake Gold’s flagship Australian asset is the Fosterville Gold Mine near Bendigo in Victoria. It also has interests in the Northern Territory and Western Australia.

Tony Makuch, Kirkland chief executive, said that the firm has affirmed its long-term commitment to Australia with the ASX debut. Its Fosterville mine is expected to produce nearly 250,000 ounces of gold this year, up from 105,000 ounces in 2014. It could produce as much as 400,000 ounces of gold by 2020.
