Bank hybrid proceeds with two firms’ advice
Herbert Smith Freehills (HSF) and King & Wood Mallesons (KWM) acted in the capital securities offering and buy-back facility recently launched by the Australia and New Zealand Banking Group (ANZ).

HSF acted for the joint lead managers of the deal while KWM acted for ANZ.

In addition to launching the ANZ Capital Notes 5 additional tier-1 securities, ANZ also announced a buy-back facility that seeks to raise up to $1bn.

HSF advised ANZ Securities, J.P. Morgan Australia, Morgans Financial, Morgan Stanley Australia Securities, UBS Australia, and Westpac Institutional Bank.

Philippa Stone, HSF’s global joint head of equity capital markets, led the firm’s team with senior associate Charlotte Cameron. They were assisted by solicitor Michael Burrell.

“This transaction follows our recent roles on a number of significant bank hybrids and continues to highlight investor demand for Australian bank hybrid securities,” Stone said.
