Ashurst advises on acquisition of Australian health insurer
Ashurst has advised nib Holdings Ltd on the AU$155.5 million acquisition of GU Health, Australia’s only specialist corporate group health insurer, from Australian Unity.
The Sydney-based team was led by corporate partner Phil Breden and included partners Anton Harris (capital raising), Tim Brookes (TMT), Peter McCullogh and Barbara Phair (tax), Jennie Mansfield (employment), Anita Cade (property) and Bill Reid (competition).
The team advised on all aspects of the transaction, which is expected to complete in the final quarter of 2017, and the capital raising.

A team from Clyde & Co has helped the Riverwood Community Centre in Sydney to become a Public Benevolent Institution.
The registration for the centre will enable it to access significant tax concessions and other benefits including potential new fundraising opportunities.
Clyde partner Marcus O'Brien and associate Casey Williamson worked on a pro-bono basis to draft the lengthy submission to the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC).
Dedicated space law school launches
A new law school has launched which focuses exclusively on space law with courses for students and lawyers worldwide.
The Global Space Law Center at Cleveland-Marshall College of Law, part of Cleveland State University, aims to train the next generation of space lawyers and help promote laws and policies for the peaceful use of outer space.
“The space industry is undergoing a drastic transformation with the development of reusable rockets and other new technologies that will reduce the cost of accessing space and, in turn, spur the growth of new companies,” said Professor Mark J. Sundahl who will serve as the new facility’s director.
The first course, which will be available online to students, lawyers and space industry executives, is called Space Law: A Global View.
