AI platform Harvey establishes first APAC base with new Sydney office

US-headquartered AI company Harvey has established its first APAC office in Sydney.

Former Quinn Emanuel senior associate Ashleigh Whittaker, who made the jump to Harvey last year, has been named Australia country manager. She will be joined by 15 other staff in sales, customer success and operations positions.

According to Harvey, Australia is one of its key markets and would serve as “a launchpad for the company’s regional expansion”.

“Australia is one of the most forward-thinking legal markets in the world, and our customers here have been incredibly innovative in proving what’s possible with AI. We’re making a long-term commitment to Australia that will allow us to provide customers with on the ground support and co-develop new solutions together to transform the legal industry”, Harvey co-founder and CEO Winston Weinberg said.

King & Wood Mallesons, Ashurst, Gilbert + Tobin, A&O Shearman and Arnold Bloch Leibler are among Harvey’s current users in Australia. Last week, Clayton Utz announced that it was also implementing the platform across the firm.

“With our local hub now open and a growing team, we’re ready to capitalise on the strong momentum created by our flagship customers here. In particular, we see significant opportunities for in-house teams and firms alike to deliver greater business value through AI”, Whittaker said.

Whittaker will return to Australia from Harvey’s office in San Francisco, where she was part of the strategic business development team. Harvey confirmed that additional roles would be filled next year.
