Those promoted are in commercial property, family law, dispute resolution groups
Tompkins Wake has congratulated Jacinda Johnston (May), Laura Fischer and Becky Brown on their promotions from senior associates to special counsel in the firm’s commercial property, family law, and dispute resolution teams, respectively.
In its news release, Tompkins Wake shared that their elevation seeks to acknowledge their achievements and contributions to the firm, their clients, and their practice areas. The firm said it looks forward to their efforts to help the firm grow.

Based in Hamilton, Johnston has assisted in connecting Tompkins Wake’s commercial property capabilities across Auckland, Waikato, and the Bay of Plenty.
Per her firm bio, she has advised on commercial property transactions. She has also handled commercial property acquisitions and disposals, due diligence, financing arrangements, leasing, and ownership and investment structures to protect and preserve trust interests.
Johnston has managed significant multi-party transactions and supported clients across New Zealand. Her client base has included developers, investors, owner-occupiers, and Māori trusts.
She joined Tompkins Wake in 2015. She has been a member of the Auckland District Law Society, the Auckland Women Lawyers’ Association, Property Council New Zealand, and Women in Property. She earned her LLB from the University of Waikato.
Working across the firm’s Hamilton and Rotorua offices, Fischer focuses on relationship property and trust law.
Per her firm bio, she has assisted with relationship property disputes, claims against estates and trusts, and trust-related litigation.
Fischer has also helped with contracting-out agreements and applications under the Protection of Personal and Property Rights Act 1988 involving the appointment of property managers and welfare guardians.
She has mentored her teammates at the firm and supported junior practitioners. She obtained her LLB from the University of Waikato.
Based in Rotorua, Brown has worked on commercial and trust-related disputes for over a decade. In the area of general commercial dispute resolution, she has focused on contractual disputes, insolvency litigation, property, and construction matters.
In the area of trust and estate litigation, she has handled claims concerning estates, trusts, and trustees, including breach of trust allegations, trustee removal, applications for directions, and Family Protection Act 1955 matters.
Per her firm bio, Brown has appeared before New Zealand’s Court of Appeal, High Court, and District Court across various commercial and trust matters. Apart from court proceedings, she has helped resolve matters via alternative dispute resolution, including mediation.
Brown joined Tompkins Wake in 2015 and began practising in 2010. She received her LLB (honours) and BMS from the University of Waikato.
