Wynyard Wood appoints new senior associate

Auckland-based firm Wynyard Wood has appointed Wincy Cheung as a senior associate specialising in corporate, commercial, and construction matters, according to the New Zealand Law Society.

Cheung is originally from the UK, having practised as a company commercial solicitor in the UK for 10 years, before moving to New Zealand in 2014 and focusing on providing construction and infrastructure advice.

Prior to joining Wynyard Wood, Cheung was senior legal counsel for Kainga Ora. Her responsibilities included providing legal support and strategic advice on a variety of construction-related matters ranging from Kainga Ora’s new build, new community developments, maintenance, and retrofit programmes.

Cheung was also previously a senior associate at one of the country’s largest law firms and has a considerable amount of experience in a wide range of construction and infrastructure projects advising on local government, construction, and large-scale infrastructure projects, as well as advising commercial landlords on a range of commercial contracts relating to their property portfolios.

According to the firm, Cheung is able to “focus on providing pragmatic commercial advice whilst also having particular expertise in the construction and infrastructure industry and is able to assist clients with their projects, from the procurement phase through to construction.”
