Strong nominations for the 2018 New Zealand Law Awards

Nominations have closed for the 2018 New Zealand Law Awards with finalists due to be revealed in mid-September. In the meantime, NZ Lawyer’s expert team are faced with the difficult task of selecting the shortlist from hundreds of submissions.

The process has been made more challenging this year by both the quantity and quality of nominations across all categories. There was a record number of nominations this year, with particularly enthusiastic showings for the Boutique Law Firm of the Year, Employment Law Specialist Firm of the Year and Property & Construction Specialist Law Firm of the Year categories.

Also attracting a large number of submissions were the categories for Young Private Practice Lawyer of the Year and Young In-house Lawyer of the Year, showing that the future is indeed bright for the profession.

Finalists will be announced on Monday 17 September in NZ Lawyer online and the NZ Law Awards page.

Justin Kennedy, managing director of Key Media, publisher of NZ Lawyer, commented on the nominations: “Every year, the submissions for the New Zealand Law Awards impress me with the achievements of the firms listed and the dedication of the individuals and teams.

“2018 is no exception. We are looking forward to seeing the finalists announced and celebrating their hard work on the awards night.”

Shortlisted lawyers, teams and firms will be asked to complete a finalist submission. Their submissions will then be assessed by an independent panel of judges comprising leaders and senior representatives from New Zealand’s legal profession.

Winners in all categories will be announced at a black-tie gala at the Cordis Auckland on Thursday 15 November. Readers interested in booking a table to celebrate with their peers can do so online here.
