The firm promotes one, hires two, and welcomes back three alumni
Simpson Grierson has appointed five new senior associates and a new senior litigation advisor. It has promoted Dominic Toomey, appointed Kate Strevens and Tom Heard, and welcomed back Nina Blomfield, Meredith Webb, and Genevieve Cox.
Toomey, a member of the firm’s Auckland transactional banking and finance group, focuses on property financing and leveraged transactions. He is also a specialist in complex receivables financing and development funding.
Strevens, who was most recently an executive director at Morgan Stanley, joins the firm’s Auckland corporate and commercial group. Her more than 15 years' experience includes being senior associate at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in Hong Kong and Singapore, senior associate at Bell Gully in New Zealand, and associate at Freshfields London. She specialises in advising on private equity transactions, mergers, takeovers, acquisitions, funds management, Financial Advisers Act and Financial Markets Conduct Act issues, joint ventures, commercial contracts, and corporate governance.
Heard joins the firm’s Auckland corporate and commercial group from Trowers & Hamlins in Oman. His more than 10 years' experience includes working as associate at Kensington Swan in New Zealand, as legal adviser at Mathesons in Ireland, and solicitor at Duncan Cotterill, also in New Zealand. He advises on all aspects of corporate law and specialises in mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, capital markets, corporate structuring, infrastructure projects, and commercial contracts.
Blomfield, who has previously worked in litigation roles at Herbert Smith and Barlow Lyde & Gilbert in London, returns to Simpson Grierson as a senior associate in the Auckland commercial litigation group. She has broad experience in resolving complex commercial disputes. She has particular expertise in matters involving commercial property, regulatory issues and the energy sector.
Webb, who spent seven years at the Government Legal Department in the UK, has also returned as a senior litigation advisor in the Wellington commercial litigation group. Her UK work included being instructed by government clients in high profile and complex judicial reviews and statutory appeals. She is an experienced litigator with particular expertise in public and administrative law.
Cox joins the construction team. She was previously work project consultant. She spent more than six years at UK construction law specialist firm Masons before returning to New Zealand to in-house legal roles at NIWA and Fisher & Paykel Healthcare. She is an expert in PPP and infrastructure projects, consultancy services agreements, commercial contracts, and regulatory and governance issues relevant to government agencies.
