A highly regarded senior lawyer takes the helm

Simpson Grierson announces new chairperson

Longtime Simpson Grierson lawyer Anne Callinan has moved up the ranks as its new chairperson, the firm announced today.

She has spent her entire career at Simpson Grierson, joining in 1992 and making partner in 1998. She was also a part of the firm’s board from 2009 to 2015.

The new chair is a member of the Competition Law and Policy Institute of New Zealand, the Arbitrators’ and Mediators’ Institute of New Zealand, and the New Zealand Lawyers and Conveyancers Disciplinary Tribunal.

“It’s great to see such a strategic thinker step into this role. Anne is well respected by staff and clients alike for her acumen as much as her down to earth approach,” said Michael Robinson, who was acting chair of the firm.

With more than 25 years’ experience in commercial litigation, her practice is vast and includes acting in interim injunctions, judicial reviews, sentencing hearings, and commercial arbitration. She is a specialist in competition, consumer, and securities law, which sees her regularly act for clients in both civil and criminal matters before the Commerce Commision and Financial Markets Authority.

“Our firm has benefitted from excellent stewardship to date and there is a huge amount of talent and energy across our organisation. I’m committed to ensuring we remain a great place to work and continue to adapt to our client’s changing needs,” Callinan said of her appointment.
