Richmond Chambers has expanded with the addition of former Meredith Connell senior litigation partner Nick Malarao, reported the New Zealand Law Society.

Malarao is a seasoned litigator who has worked in this field for 24 years. He is an expert on civil, commercial, tax and regulatory disputes. In particular, he is knowledgeable in company and insolvency law, especially when it comes to matters involving directors’ duties.

He was involved in the first substantive directors’ duties case in New Zealand in 2019 – a case that went before the Supreme Court. In 2018, he was appointed to the government’s tax working group, which examined enhancements to the country’s tax system.

Malarao was named a senior litigation partner at Meredith Connell in 2010, and joined the independent bar just last month. He also has an undergraduate degree in accounting.

He has worked with insolvency practitioners, public and private companies, and government agencies like Inland Revenue. The Law Society has authorised him to receive direct instructions from clients.
