Record number of lawyers responds to workplace environment survey

A record number of lawyers responded to the New Zealand Law Society’s recent workplace environment survey.

The survey was conducted in the aftermath of recent revelations about workplace harassment and bullying in New Zealand.

“This is the best response rate we have received for any national survey carried out by the Law Society,” said Glenda Macdonald, Law Society general manager: representative. “The views and input of over one quarter of New Zealand’s practising lawyers will provide some very robust information on some of the behaviours experienced by members of the profession in their workplaces. This will be used to inform the actions we are taking to address workplace culture.”

The survey was completed by 3,520 respondents. The Law Society said that it sent invitations to more than 13,250 New Zealand-based lawyers on 5 April.

The Law Society said that a comprehensive report will be prepared, but it did not reveal when the report would be published. The Law Society tapped market research firm Colmar Brunton to conduct the survey.
