New Zealand lawyers are among the largest delegation to the fast-approaching 27th Inter-Pacific Bar Association conference, according to the Law Society.
Launching at the SkyCity Conference Centre in Auckland on 6 April, the three-day event is coming to New Zealand for only the second time in 25 years. According to the Law Society, 514 lawyers have registered to attend the event. New Zealand already has 32 delegates, tying with Malaysia for the fourth-largest group.
Japan has the most registrations with 65, followed by Singapore with 40 and the United States with 39, the organisation said. The registration, which ends on 31 March, has seen lawyers from 43 countries sign up to attend the event.
Conference committee chair and IPBA president-elect Denis McNamara said that the IPBA, an association of business and commercial lawyers with a focus on the Asia-Pacific region, sees the event as a unique opportunity among lawyers to network. In the past couple years, the event had attracted more than 1,000 attendees, the Law Society said.
