The new judge is an ex-Chapman Tripp partner who specialised in telecommunications and corporate commercial litigation
Former Chapman Tripp partner Pheroze Jagose has been appointed to the High Court bench.
Justice Jagose joined the bar last year after 21 years at Chapman Tripp, where he specialised in telecommunications and other corporate commercial litigation.
He became a partner in 2000, six years after joining the top commercial firm from the New Zealand Air Line Pilots’ Association, where he worked as a legal officer.
The justice, who will sit in Auckland, graduated with an LLB from the University of Auckland in 1987, and finished his master’s degree in international relations at Lancaster University in 1989.
Justice Jagose specialised in competition, trade practices, and company, securities, employment, public, and administrative law when he practised as a barrister sole beginning February last year.
Attorney-General Christopher Finlayson said that the new judge has appeared at all levels of the legal system as a barrister, including in the Court of Appeal and Supreme Court.
Justice Jagose’s appointment comes after the government announced last month that Justice Peter Churchman will join the High Court bench.
