Lighter Side: Candidate’s crusade to catch illegal votes exposes his own lawyer

After losing to his republican nemesis, a US senate candidate has embarked on a crusade to expose illegal or irregular voting. The problem? His own lawyer has just been flagged

Attorneys for US senate candidate Chris McDaniel have been scouring voting records for irregularities in order to challenge his loss to republican Thad Cochran.

McDaniel’s lawyer Mitchell Tyner Sr sent Cochran’s attorneys affidavits listing alleged illegal or irregular votes from the Mississippi June runoff.

But ironically, Tyner, his wife and several of his political team including the Secretary of State have been listed as being illegal or irregular votes, reported The Clarion-Ledger.

McDaniel, a tea party-backed state senator, is asserting that he really won the election by 25,000 votes.

The opposition deny the accusations and say team McDaniel have found irregularities where none exist, and the election - which Cochran won by close to 7,700 votes - was fair.

McDaniel’s attorneys have now issued subpoenas demanding election records from more than half of Mississippi’s counties for the lawsuit, Gulf Live reported.

Madison County Circuit Clerk Lee Westbrook reportedly said a van or movers would be required to deliver the huge amount of material McDaniel is seeking, which includes poll books and absentee ballots. She added that the material won't fit into her sport utility vehicle.

"I have the materials gathered in one spot waiting for a moving van at the judge's direction," she said. "I don't know who's going to pay for a moving van to take it all down south."
