Lawyer gets 10 months’ home detention
For his role in a fraudulent scheme, a lawyer has been sentenced to 10 months home detention by the Auckland High Court.

Earlier this month, lawyer Timothy Upton Slack pleaded guilty to a serious fraud charge relating to a development project in Auckland.

The 55-year-old man is said to be part of a group that made false statements to obtain a credit facility from ANZ Bank New Zealand. The facility, which is alleged to be about $40m, allowed a company to develop an apartment hotel in the city.

The three other defendants – property developer Leonard John Ross, company director Michael James Wehipeihana, and self-employed consultant Vaughn Stephen Foster – will be tried in court on 5 June next year.

All four entered not guilty pleas late last year.
