Employment law expert Jin Park has joined the Auckland team at workplace law boutique Ashcroft Mitchell McGregor.

Park commences with the firm as a senior associate. He has guided employers on complex workplace matters, including personal grievances, restructurings, disciplinary and performance processes, workplace investigations, restraints of trade, and confidentiality issues.

“I was drawn to Ashcroft Mitchell McGregor because of its strong reputation, collaborative culture and clear focus on providing practical, timely advice to employers. Throughout my career I've worked with a wide range of clients — from large corporates and international businesses through to SMEs and their CEOs and CFOs — and what remains constant is the need for pragmatic, commercially grounded advice that helps clients make sound decisions and manage risk effectively”, Park told NZ Lawyer.

Per LinkedIn, he was previously an associate staff barrister with Catherine Stewart Barrister. He was also an associate with employment law boutique Edwards Law and a senior solicitor with Kiely Thompson Caisley; moreover, he logged stints with Prestige Law and Employsure New Zealand.

Park told NZ Lawyer that Ashcroft Mitchell McGregor’s growth in Auckland and its national reach presented “a fantastic opportunity to deliver real value across the full spectrum of employment matters, whether navigating contentious issues or taking a forward-looking approach through policy reviews and workplace strategies that get ahead of problems before they arise”.

“This is particularly relevant now with so many upcoming legislative changes on the horizon”, he said.

Park also highlighted Ashcroft Mitchell McGregor’s technology approach.

“One of the things that drew me to Ashcroft Mitchell McGregor is the firm's forward-looking and open approach to embracing technology. There's a real appetite here to use AI thoughtfully and practically to add genuine value to client work, and that's an incredibly exciting space to be part of”, he told NZ Lawyer.

Park pinpointed the advent of AI in the workplace as a key issue among his clients.

“AI in the workplace is something I'm genuinely passionate about — both in terms of advising clients on the legal and people challenges it presents, and in how we as a firm can harness it to deliver better outcomes for clients”, he told NZ Lawyer.

Ashcroft Mitchell McGregor partner Kate Ashcroft praised Park’s appointment.

“Jin brings a wealth of high quality employment law experience and a very pragmatic, client focused approach. His appointment reflects our commitment to building depth in Auckland and ensuring our clients have access to senior, commercially grounded advice as workplace issues continue to grow in complexity”, Ashcroft said.

Ashcroft Mitchell McGregor launched last year with ex-Copeland Ashcroft lawyers Ashcroft, Myriam Mitchell, Christie McGregor and Shi Sheng Cai.
