International GC training programme opens in NZ

DLA Piper has launched its international GC programme in New Zealand.

The ‘What In-House Lawyers Need’ programme has launched in New Zealand this week by DLA Piper.

Already winning awards internationally, WIN is a fusion of technical and commercial career development training, insights into the discipline of working in-house as a lawyer and personal networking skills.

“WIN offers ways to work together and much-needed resources to in-house lawyers - both technical resources, and personal and business resources to do the job of general counsel,” DLA Piper partner Sue Brown told NZ Lawyer.

Open to any in-house lawyer, the programme is an opportunity to network.

“They share their experiences, and find surprising and helpful commonality,” Brown said.

After being established in the UK in 2010, the program has expanded into 35 countries with over 4,000 in-house lawyers registered in the online community.

“In New Zealand our WIN community has started with approximately 300 and is rapidly growing with its official launch,” Brown said of the programme’s success.

“Any lawyer from in-house legal teams can be involved.  DLA Piper’s WIN programme caters for all levels of legal capability.”

It’s the opportunity to be able to help in-house lawyers stay up to date with the changing legal landscape that drives the firm to facilitate the programme, Brown said, and with almost 22% of New Zealand’s lawyers now working in-house, it represents a huge opportunity for the firm.

“Most importantly, we enjoy working with our clients to help them do what they do, better.  It’s part of making sure we provide the commercial and pragmatic support our clients need.”
