Holland Beckett has elevated five to senior associate and four to associate in a recent promotions round.
Bridget Bailey, Hester Sutherland-Stacey, Sophie Law, Jessica Fitzgerald and Rachel Withington join the senior associate ranks while Emily Merrill, Rebecca Irvine, Waiata Groot and Angus Hendry commence as associates. All of them are based in Tauranga.
Bailey is part of the resource management team, focusing on consenting infrastructure and renewable electricity projects under the RMA and fast-track processes. She was previously an in-house legal counsel for the Bay of Plenty Regional Council.
Sutherland-Stacey concentrates on commercial property development as part of the property and commercial team. She has been with Holland Beckett since 2014, when she joined as a solicitor.
Law specialises in employment law. She recorded a stint in London with Magic Circle firm Slaughter and May before beginning her tenure with Holland Beckett in 2018 as a solicitor.
Fitzgerald has tackled M&A, private equity, commercial contracts, corporate governance, and general corporate advice/structuring matters. She took an in-house role at a Vancouver-based tech startup before returning to Hollan Beckett in 2018.
Withington focuses on property and commercial law. She has represented Foodstuffs Members on the purchase and sale of New World, Four Square and PAK’nSAVE stores in New Zealand.
Merrill’s practice concentrates on the buying and selling of kiwifruit orchards and forestry assets in addition to renewable energy. She has been with Holland Beckett since she was a summer clerk in 2016.
Irvine has worked on leasing, Public Works Act matters, commercial contracts, delegations, and privacy. She once worked in-house at the Tauranga City Council.
Groot has tackled separation and division of relationship property (including complex Family Trust and Company structures); asset protection and contracting out agreements; parenting and guardianship disputes; family violence (including urgent and non-urgent applications for protection orders): Family Court proceedings; estate claims under the Family Protection Act; applications for personal welfare and/or property orders relating to loss of capacity; and dissolution of marriage. She also recorded stints with Simpson Grierson and Cooney Lees Morgan.
Hendry concentrates on property and commercial issues and on matters involving trusts, charities, incorporated societies and estate planning. He commenced with Holland Beckett in 2022.
