The experienced swimmer wants to set a new world record while helping raise HK$1m for a good cause
A Herbert Smith Freehills (HSF) manager is aiming to set a new world record and raise HK$1m for charity by swimming around Hong Kong Island on 11 November.
Simon Holliday, a learning and development manager of the firm, will have to swim unassisted and non-stop in under 17 hours and finish the 45 kilometres he needs to cover to clinch a new world record.
Only Australian Olympian Linda McGill has completed a full loop around Hong Kong Island, in 1976.
The effort aims to raise HK$1m for the Splash Foundation, an organisation Holliday established in 2015. The money will be used to teach thousands of people to swim and be water-safe by 2020.
As of writing, the fundraising has already topped HK$500,000.
Holliday is a veteran of endurance swims, HSF said. He swum the English Channel in 2011 and set the world record for the 35-kilometre Hong Kong to Macau swim in 2014.
