Former Buddle Findlay partner joins Employment Court bench

Former Buddle Findlay partner Merepaia King (Ngāti Māhanga/Ngāti Te Wehi – Tainui) has joined the bench of the Employment Court ǀ Te Kōti Take Mahi o Aotearoa as a permanent judge.

Attorney-General David Parker made the announcement on 3 July, and confirmed that she is set to be sworn in on 9 September.

King focuses on employment and health and safety law. She has represented clients in the Court of Appeal, Employment Court and the Employment Relations Authority.

She commenced with Buddle Findlay in 2015, and ascended to the partnership in 2021.

Chief Judge Christina Inglis lauded King’s expertise and experience, gleaned from a legal career that also includes stints with Tompkins Wake’s civil litigation team and with employment law specialist firm Kiely, Thompson Caisley as a senior associate.

While King will be based in Auckland, she will sit across New Zealand.
