FMA's acting head of enforcement officially assumes role

The Financial Markets Authority (FMA) | Te Mana Tātai Hokohoko has officially named acting head of enforcement Margot Gatland as enforcement head.

GC Liam Mason said that the appointment followed “an extensive local and international search.”

“This is a crucial role, responsible for leading all the FMA’s work to enforce the law and prosecute misconduct. Given the importance of enforcement at the FMA, we wanted to test the market to ensure we appointed the best person to the role,” he explained.

Mason said that many local and overseas candidates put themselves forward for the role, which reflected “the high regard in which the FMA is held.”

“We’re delighted that we have the right skills and experience inside the FMA with Margot,” he said.

Gatland started with the FMA in December 2017 as a senior solicitor. She has also recorded stints at the Serious Fraud Office and Meredith Connell.

She has worked in the UK, and has already headed up several successful FMA prosecutions.
