Employment Court's Corkill to remain on the bench for one more year

Bruce Corkill will sit as a judge of the Employment Court for one more year on an Acting Warrant.

“Judge Corkill’s contribution to the work of the Employment Court has been significant,” Chief Judge Christina Inglis said in a statement. “I am delighted that he has agreed to remain on the bench for an additional period of time.”

Corkill was first appointed to the judgeship in 2014. He focuses on employment, civil and professional disciplinary work.

He was admitted as a barrister and solicitor in 1975, and then relocated to England. After a stint as a solicitor of England and Wales that ended in 1982, he returned to New Zealand.

Corkill operated as a general litigator before joining the independent bar in 1997. In 2007, he took silk.

In 2006, he was named chair of the Health Practitioners' Disciplinary Tribunal – a role he held until 2014.

Corkill’s new one-year term as Employment Court judge on Acting Warrant will begin on 2 February 2022. He is based in Wellington.
