Edward Eisdell-Moore has been promoted to the technology and data partnership at DLA Piper.

The seasoned technology and data lawyer has tackled matters involving AI, tech and sourcing projects, data protection, and cybersecurity. He has worked with start-ups, high-growth technology businesses, major corporates and publicly listed multinationals in data-intensive and infrastructure-driven industries.

He has handled issues across the full life cycle of major projects, including procurement, contract negotiation, implementation and ongoing operational management. He assisted a local insurer with the migration of its core insurance platform to a cloud-based platform; he also advised an international AI provider on the privacy and data protection-related aspects of its technology’s rollout in New Zealand.

Eisdell-Moore has collaborated with the firm’s corporate, finance, litigation and regulatory teams on transactions, infrastructure projects and regulatory change programmes with major digital and data components. Before taking on private practice roles with Simpson Grierson and eventually DLA Piper, he was a legal counsel at EDF Energy, according to LinkedIn. He has offered commentary on New Zealand’s AI strategy and regulation approach.

DLA Piper’s country managing partner for New Zealand, Laura Scampion, highlighted the evolution of technology, data and AI from “specialist side topics” into key business issues for the firm’s clients.

“Ed brings deep technical credibility, strong regulatory understanding and a practical mindset to complex projects. His previous experience as an in-house technology and data specialist at a multinational energy gentailer informs a highly client-centric approach and also boosts our ability to advise clients in the energy sector – including on data centres. His promotion recognises the market need for advisers who can support both innovation and compliance in equal measure”, she said.

Eisdell-Moore officially made partner on 1 January. He operates from Auckland.

He is active in DLA Piper’s pro bono and community programmes.
