Criminal Bar Association VPs debut new criminal justice podcast

Criminal Bar Association Vice Presidents Annabel Cresswell and Sumudu Thode have debuted a new podcast focused on criminal justice.

That’s Just Criminal aims to examine the criminal justice system not just in Aotearoa but worldwide. The podcast is also intended to cultivate a community for those in criminal law.

“Being a criminal and trial barrister can be a lonely time, and what we want to do is create a community where we talk about those hard decisions in those tough times and how others in our role deal with them,” Cresswell said.

The first two episodes of the podcast have gone live with guests Wayne McKean and Rishi Nathwani SC.

Topics touched on have included the decision-making process of clients providing evidence in trials and the factors that mould defence lawyers’ courtroom approaches. The podcast also looked into the case of Victorian barrister Nicola Gobbo, who became an informant for the police.

The Criminal Bar Association has partnered with LexisNexis to produce the podcast.
