The initiative aims to draw lawyers to Tauranga’s legal sector
Tauranga firms Cooney Lees Morgan (CLM), Sharp Tudhope and Holland Beckett have joined the Redefining Legal campaign, which aims to attract lawyers to Tauranga’s legal sector.
Priority One developed the campaign through its Work Life Tauranga platform, which highlights the industry, career and lifestyle opportunities in the region. The Redefining Legal campaign aims to bring in talent that bolsters and complements Tauranga’s local workforce, per a media release.
“The Western Bay of Plenty offers lawyers the opportunity to work on significant matters while enjoying a quality of life that is hard to match. Collaborating on this initiative allows us to show the scale of our offering and the options available in the region, helping to attract the legal talent our growing economy needs”, said Danielle Brownlie, Holland Beckett’s people and culture manager.
The initiative addresses the issue of rising legal demand amidst a shrinking talent pool.
“Law firms naturally compete, but the challenge of attracting experienced legal talent is bigger than any single firm. By working together, we can better highlight the depth of legal work happening in Tauranga and the opportunities the region offers for lawyers looking to build a meaningful career”, CLM partner Campbell Izzard said.
Sharp Tudhope’s HR manager, Grant Davidson, highlighted the practice areas Tauranga lawyers are focusing on. Practitioners in the region work with infrastructure development, agribusiness, logistics, property, technology and export businesses.
“Tauranga’s economy is evolving quickly, and the legal work here reflects that. Lawyers in the region are involved in complex commercial, property and infrastructure projects, making it an exciting place to build a legal career”, Davidson said.
Tauranga lawyers have also tackled issues involving regulatory frameworks and investment projects.
Work Life Tauranga project manager Meg Davis explained that Redefining Legal was “about positioning Tauranga as a serious professional destination”.
“We know talented people are looking for meaningful work and a place where they can build a life. Tauranga offers both. Our role has been to bring employers together and tell a stronger regional story about the opportunities available here”, Davis said, noting that the campaign was indicative of a wider shift in the approach to talent attraction.
Marketing under the Redefining Legal campaign will extend across New Zealand and internationally, focusing on targeted talent profiles.
