Commercial law expert makes partner at Lowndes Jordan

Duncan Coats has joined the Lowndes Jordan partnership.

Coats joined the business law and litigation firm in 2015 from TLT LLP, a top-50 UK firm focused on commercial law.

Coats has extensive experience in all aspects of commercial law. He advises on corporate acquisitions and disposals, capital raises, joint venture arrangements, franchising arrangements, and IP matters.

He has a particular focus on employment law and advises on contentious and non-contentious matters in the area. He has also advised on investigations undertaken by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment, as well as restructures, complex holiday pay issues, and senior management issues.

His practice services a wide range of sectors in New Zealand and the UK, but he has particular expertise acting for clients in the technology, retail, and hospitality and leisure sectors.

Partner Rick Shera said that Coats’ appointment recognises his expertise and leadership, as well as the need of Lowndes Jordan clients for high-level and integrated employment and commercial advise.

“For high growth businesses, and for those that are more established, the crossover between staff, who may have shares in the business, owners, and investors, is a growing area of complexity on which Duncan is ideally placed to advise,” Shera said.
