Clifford Chance chooses new global head of litigation
Clifford Chance has chosen a new leader for its litigation, dispute resolution, and risk management group.

Partner Matthew Newick has been appointed to the new role, as well as given a seat in the firm’s executive leadership group. He will lead a group of about 500 lawyers based in the UK, Continental Europe, the Middle East, Asia Pacific, and the United States by the start of the new year.

Newick is a specialist in commercial dispute resolution and regulatory enforcement, with a particular focus on complex cross-border disputes, investigations, and advice in the financial sector. He has been with Clifford Chance since 1991.

In 2013, when he was in Hong Kong, he was appointed to lead the litigation and dispute resolution group of the firm in the Asia-Pacific region. He returned to London in January.

Newick succeeds partner Jeremy Sandelson, who was also previously regional managing partner for Clifford Chance in the UK and the Middle East. Sandelson will still be involved with the leadership team for the transition and will return to his practice after.
