The promotions were made across the Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch offices
Chapman Tripp has promoted 12 lawyers to senior solicitors.
Ben Methven, Jessica Lewis, Penny Mander and Mitchell Souness operate from the Wellington office, while Kirsty Jacomb works from the Christchurch office. Georgia Fsadni, Jack Edmond, Louis Norton, Nathan Whittle, Madison Hughes, Vivian Griffiths, and Xin Yee Lau are based in the Auckland office.
Methven specialises in banking and finance. He concentrates on matters involving bilateral and syndicated bank lending, project financing, and restructuring and insolvency. In particular, he is interested in financing for decarbonisation initiatives, the firm said.
Fsadni is part of the tax team, providing advice on cross-border transactions, transfer pricing matters, M&A transactions, and Inland Revenue reviews. Before joining Chapman Tripp, she worked at Deloitte.
Edmond is with the construction and major projects team. He has advised both public and private sector clients on issues in the infrastructure, health, renewable energy, ports, commercial, and residential sectors. He has assisted with construction contracts, consultancy agreements, supply contracts, and other project-related documents.
Lewis specialises in tax law and assists clients with income tax and GST issues across multiple industries. She has provided guidance on the tax aspects of corporate transactional and financing matters.
Jacomb is part of the resource management team and specialises in litigation, dispute resolution, environmental, and resource management matters. She has assisted on RMA consenting, designations, district and regional planning, appeals, and enforcement. She also served as counsel at the Council, Environment Court, District Court and High Court levels.
Norton is part of the litigation team. He specialises in civil litigation and dispute resolution. He works with clients on contentious matters, particularly contract, insurance, and corporate insolvency issues. He previously worked with Bell Gully and spent two years as a judges' clerk in the High Court.
Hughes practises with the property team. She concentrates on acquisitions, disposals, and commercial and industrial leasing. She has guided lenders on the property aspects of development financing and has assisted mortgagees with consent requests and mortgagee sales. She has also advised asset and investment managers, commercial landlords, and developers.
Souness specialises in corporate and commercial law. He focuses on M&A, equity investments, and corporate governance. He has advised on joint ventures, legal due diligence, employee share schemes, overseas investments, and general corporate governance.
Whittle works with the litigation team. He specialises in civil litigation and dispute resolution and has handled matters such as contract, company, and insolvency disputes. He represents parties in a variety of general commercial issues. He has advised insolvency practitioners, creditors, and debtors in insolvency-related matters. He has regularly appeared as counsel in the High Court and has tackled appeals in both the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court.
Mander is part of the property team. She has advised on commercial leasing, construction contracts, infrastructure property portfolio management, and procurement matters.
Griffiths is from the property team. He advises domestic and international clients on commercial property transactions, including acquisitions, disposals, leasing, and overseas investment regulatory requirements.
Lau is part of the litigation team. She specialises in civil litigation and dispute resolution, and has an interest in contract, tort, property, and public disputes. She has appeared as junior counsel in the High Court, and before joining Chapman Tripp, she was a judge’s clerk at the Court of Appeal.
