Bankside Chambers has brought in commercial litigation and dispute resolution specialist Camille Butters.

The financial services litigation specialist brings over 10 years of experience working with corporates and financial services industry participants. She was on Russell McVeagh’s litigation team as a senior associate before she joined the independent bar last year.

Butters worked with Westpac’s regulatory affairs team and was part of the Financial Markets Authority’s enforcement team. She was involved in the investigation that resulted in Financial Markets Authority v Tiger Brokers (NZ) Limited [2023] NZHC 1625; she also tackled complex cross-border litigation involving urgent freezing orders over assets exceeding US$150m in WH v YL (2021) NZHC 2968; WH v YL (2021) NZHC 3434; Harper v Love (2022) NZHC 2256.

She also practised in London with Clifford Chance’s litigation and dispute resolution team. She has taken on complex litigation, dispute resolution, regulatory investigations and enforcement action, cross-border disputes, and seeking and defending injunctions; in addition, she has worked on commercial and contractual disputes as well as insolvency proceedings.

Moreover, Butters has advised on issues related to potential contraventions of the Financial Markets Conduct Act 2013 and the Anti-Money Laundering and Countering Financing of Terrorism 2009. She has represented corporates and individuals under investigation by regulators at all stages of the process.

Her clients have included Tiger Brokers and BNZ.

“Camille brings great value to our chambers with her specialist knowledge of banking and financial markets regulation and her broad commercial litigation skillset”, said Bankside board chair Philip Skelton KC.
