Two alumni return to the firm, while two others come from in-house roles

Buddle Findlay snags 4 senior lawyers
Buddle Findlay has welcomed four senior lawyers to the fold.

Sarah McEwan, Jessica Heyes, Nathan Hansen-Thorpe, and Rachael Balasingam have been appointed by the top firm to senior roles.

McEwan has been appointed senior associate and comes to the firm from ANZ, where she was most recently director of capital markets and loan execution. She has also worked for Beca and Bell Gully in New Zealand and Sloan Robinson Investment and Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in London. She specialises in corporate and securities law, focusing on capital markets and mergers and acquisitions. She is based in Auckland.

Heyes rejoins the firm as a senior associate from MinterEllison in Melbourne, where she spent seven years, most recently as a senior associate. She is an expert in competition, consumer, and public and administrative law. Heyes was previously seconded to the Commerce Commission and the Ministry of Economic Development. She is based in Wellington.

Hansen-Thorpe, who advises lenders and borrowers on domestic and international financing, moves back to Buddle Findlay from Slaughter & May in London. The new senior solicitor specialises on acquisition finance, syndicated lending, and project finance. He is based in Auckland.

Balasingam joins the firm’s Wellington office as a senior solicitor. She comes from the Office of the Auditor-General of New Zealand and joins the firm’s resource management and Māori law team. She has also previously worked at Russell McVeagh.
