The New Zealand practice of a global law firm has appointed a new chief executive, who comes fresh from a role in Dubai.

DLA Piper New Zealand this morning announced the appointment of Kevin Hall as the firm’s new CEO.

Hall has returned from New Zealand after working as the chief operating officer of Dubai-based law firm Al Tamimi & Co, which he led through significant growth and development to become the largest law firm in the Middle East.

“I am looking forward to working closely with the New Zealand team to build DLA Piper’s regional and global footprint and share my industry knowledge and expertise to further the success of the firm,” Hall said.

He has replaced Hugh Caughley, who is retiring after nearly five years with the firm and over 42 years in business.

DLA Piper New Zealand chairman Martin Wiseman said the firm was delighted to announce Hall’s appointment.

“He brings a mix of practical commercial skills and extensive experience in building and developing organisations for growth, critical to supporting DLA Piper’s global and domestic operations.”

DLA Piper Australia managing partner John Weber said Hall was a great fit for the firm.

“He has an appreciation of what we want to achieve globally as a business. I have confidence that he will lead our existing and future people in New Zealand in a way that supports and helps deliver our vision to be the leading global business law firm.”

"Kevin was with the Dubai based Al Tamimi & Co from 2007 to 2014, during this time the firm grew to 15 offices throughout the United Arab Emirates and Gulf region, growing staff numbers to more than 550.”

As a chartered accountant with a background in the New Zealand finance sector, Hall’s previous roles include finance manager with Trust Bank.

His first foray into executive management and into the legal services sector was in Auckland with one of the local law firms which he led as CEO for 10 years prior to moving to Dubai.
