Bar wants more mentors

The New Zealand Bar Association (NZBA) is encouraging more lawyers to give back and become mentors.

The organisation is expanding its mentoring program in 2018. It is hosting numerous mentoring events, with the soonest being in Auckland on 8 March at Bankside Chambers, 88 Shortland St.

The event will be a chance for barristers in the Auckland and northern region to hear from colleagues currently involved in the program, the bar said. It encourages barristers, including non-members, as well as those considering joining the independent bar, to attend.

“The association is encouraging a diverse range of practitioners across all levels of experience, practice areas and life stages, throughout New Zealand to become involved as mentors or mentees,” the association said.

The organisation told the New Zealand Law Society that it is looking for more intermediate-level mentors, who have five to 15 years PQE. It is also looking for more regional, female, and ethnically diverse mentors.
