Bankside Chambers has welcomed former Morrison Mallett litigation head Michael Morrison.

He gained commercial litigation experience from stints with MinterEllisonRuddWatts and Baker McKenzie in London, where he relocated in 2000. He then returned to New Zealand and joined Lowndes Jordan, becoming a partner there in 2006. In 2007, he was named senior partner, leading the firm’s commercial and civil litigation teams.

In 2016, Morrison launched Morrison Mallett’s Auckland office, where he headed up the commercial and civil litigation team. His clients include Shell Oil NZ Limited, the Kuwait Investment Office and the state of Saudi Arabia.

His litigation practice includes tackling contractual disputes, civil fraud, corporate law, joint venture/fiduciary duties, finance and securities, insolvency, professional negligence, trust, and property disputes. He has also displayed considerable expertise in the primary sector.

Morrison has served as senior counsel on a regular basis in both the High Court and the Court of Appeal. He has represented clients before arbitrators and tribunals, as well as in mediations.
