Auckland, New Plymouth lawyer appointed as District Court Judge

An Auckland and New Plymouth-based barrister has just been appointed as an acting District Court Judge, according to Attorney-General Christopher Finlayson

Auckland and New Plymouth-based barrister, Tony Lendrum, has been appointed as an acting District Court Judge with general and family warrants for a period of two years, according to an announcement from Attorney-General Christopher Finlayson.

Lendrum was admitted to the Bar in 1975. Throughout his career he has specialised in family law. From 1996 he practised as a Barrister and from 2006, exclusively as a mediator. In that role he has mediated nationally and, primarily, in family law disputes and in particular in the area of relationship property and trusts, Family Protection, and Care of Children Act matters (including counsel led mediations).

He has also mediated in commercial, local government, development and product issues. He has served on both the Auckland District Legal Aid and Family Law Committees and has presented papers for NZFLS, Lexis Nexis and AMINZ.

Lendrum’s success rate for mediations convened is reportedly in excess of 90% and, for the 775+ mediations he has convened over the past nine years (when he has acted as a mediator full-time) his success rate is approximately 95%.

The new judge will be based in the Hawke’s Bay.
