Auckland lawyer for child Susie Houghton has joined the Wellington District Court bench as its newest judge.

Attorney-General David Parker confirmed that Houghton will be sworn in as judge on 27 October. The seasoned family lawyer has been on the executive of the New Zealand Law Society’s family law section for six years.

Houghton has been a lawyer for child for over two decades and has tackled Hague Convention-related issues. She joined the independent bar in Auckland in 2001.

She began her legal career in 1989 as a solicitor with Nicholson Gribben (now Phillips Fox). She went on to head up the family law team at Davenports before making partner at Galvin Law.
