Atticus Finch studies law at the University of Texas

A student at the University of Texas couldn’t have picked a better name for his future profession.

The university has a first-year student named Atticus Finch. And this student chose the name for himself when he was just eight years old, the Texas Lawyer said.

Born Angus Finch, the student said that he had read To Kill a Mockingbird when he was seven and was inspired by the iconic fictional lawyer.

Finch also said that he was teased because of his original name. As bad fortune would have it, he moved schools at a time McDonald’s was heavily promoting its new Angus beef burger.

“It wasn’t a good time to be a kid changing schools with a name of Angus in Texas,” he told the Texas Lawyer.

Finch told his parents, who are lawyers, that he wanted to change his name. They said that they would consider the request if he used it for a year without taking legal action. Finch did and his parents helped him change his name.
