Anthony Harper has started 2018 with a bang with its largest promotion round yet.
The firm has appointed two new partners, two new special counsel, six new senior associate and three new associates.
Malcolm Hurley, managing partner, said that the firm is continuing to grow and this growth is sustained by the strength and expertise of the people who work in its teams.
The firm’s new partners, Jackie Behrnes and Megan Compton, are both based in Christchurch. Behrnes is a member of the firm’s employment team, while Compton is with its corporate advisory group.
Behrnes, who has practiced in both New Zealand and the UK, joined the firm in early 2017. She has extensive experience in employment law, with a particular focus on senior executive employment issues, redundancy, personal grievances, disciplinary processes, employment agreements and dispute resolution.

Compton, who joined the firm in 2015, has also worked in both New Zealand and the UK. Her practice covers M&A, commercial agreements, and intellectual property. She has particular expertise in the tourism sector and she leads the firm’s tourism specialty.

Anthony Harper’s new special counsel are Aimee Edwards and Lynne Van, who are based in Christchurch and Auckland, respectively.
Edwards, who has more than 17 years’ experience as a lawyer, is an expert trust and asset planning lawyer. She has particular focus on trusts, asset protection, elder law, estate planning and wills.

Van is a litigation expert who has extensive experience in insolvency, property, securities enforcement, and recoveries. She has bachelors and masters degrees from Auckland University. She was listed as a "Next Generation Lawyer" in the 2018 Legal 500 Asia Pacific Guide.

This year we have promoted more lawyers to the position of special counsel and senior associate than at any previous time.
