Sharp Tudhope expands partnership

Sharp Tudhope has elevated Richard Hoare to the partnership. With the promotion, the century-old Tauranga firm now has 10 partners.

After earning his law degree from Victoria University of Wellington, he commenced as a solicitor at Kensington Swan in Wellington, before joining as an associate at HFW in Melbourne. He then moved to Clarendon Lawyers, before returning to the North Island and joining Sharp Tudhope last year.

Hoare specialises in commercial law, with a reputation in handling M&A matters. He is immersed in the start-up community of Tauranga, the firm said.

“There’s a growing community of start-ups in this city. People are very enthusiastic, and I love the opportunity to get involved with new businesses and help them all the way through,” he said.

Hoare said that the opportunity to be involved with ventures from the very start and support them through early stages to grow is a dream scenario for him.

“Those clients generally need pragmatic and practical commercial services but understand the importance of getting things right from the outset and establishing lasting relationships with quality advisors. My experience advising on mergers and acquisitions and assisting start-ups in Melbourne is certainly a point of difference for me,” he said.

The promotion expands the firm’s commercial team to five partners. It also follows the addition of new associates to the team, including associates Jessie McKenzie, Alex Chapman, and Jodi Ellmers.

Partner Kylie Boyd said that the firm now has a diverse mix of people, positioning it well for the future. Hoare strengthens and adds vibrancy to the growing team, she said.
