Ashurst, a global law firm, has announced that it will welcome Nathan Deveson from MinterEllison as a senior partner in its tax practice in Sydney, effective 2026.
“Nathan’s appointment marks a significant milestone for our global tax practice,” said Lea Constantine – Ashurst partner and head of region, Australia – in a news release. “He is recognised for his extensive experience advising on complex, high-value transactions for many of Australia’s prominent real estate and corporate clients.”
In its news release, Ashurst stated that Deveson’s appointment would enhance its tax offering and support its corporate transactions, projects and energy transition, and real estate practices.

Ashurst shared that Deveson has over 23 years of experience as a tax partner and a background in complex real estate transactions and state-based taxes, with an emphasis on stamp duty, land tax, surcharge stamp duty, and land tax.
The firm noted that he offers commercial and financial structuring advice across mergers and acquisitions, financial services, mining, resources, and other sectors.

According to his biography on MinterEllison’s website, Deveson has been a partner since 2002, managing partner of the Sydney office from 2017–21, and leader of the state taxes and stamp duty practice.
He covers all taxation issues relating to property development structures, joint ventures, investments in inbound real estate, and the establishment of real estate trusts, according to his firm bio.
At the Property Council of Australia, Deveson chairs two tax committees and belongs to the build-to-rent roundtable, the Retirement Living Council’s tax committee, and the NSW Division Council.
