Barrister’s public law practice focused on constitution, administrative law
The sitting federal government has announced the appointment of Craig Lenehan as a judge of the Federal Court of Australia, New South Wales registry, as of 9 February 2026.
“I congratulate Mr Craig Lenehan SC on his appointment and thank him for his willingness to serve the Australian community,” said Michelle Rowland, Australia’s attorney-general, in a media release.
According to the media release from Australia’s attorney-general, Lenehan’s appointment followed an open call for expressions of interest and an advisory panel’s assessment.
Lenehan’s CV provided information regarding his professional experience and educational background.
He gained admission as a legal practitioner to the Supreme Court of New South Wales in 1994, signed the New South Wales bar roll in 2006, and accepted an appointment as senior counsel in 2019.
Lenehan has worked as a barrister at 5 St James Hall and Banco Chambers in Sydney, NSW.

Lenehan holds LLB and BS degrees. He received the Con Varnavas prize for the highest aggregate score in the bar exams and the Corrs Chambers Westgarth scholarship in law at UNSW.
He also received the Le Fevre prize for physical chemistry and the final year physical geography prize at Macquarie University.
