Spruson & Ferguson Australia has welcomed seasoned patent attorney Dr Catherine Winbanks back to the firm as a principal.

Winbanks was previously a senior associate with the firm. With her return, she is working with the chemical and life sciences team in Melbourne.

She has spent more than nine years as a patent attorney specialising in patent matters for the biotechnology, agricultural and life sciences sectors. She has experience prosecuting and overseeing patent portfolios for both local and international biotechnology companies; in addition, she has worked with local research institutes and universities.

Winbanks was also involved in high-profile patent opposition proceedings related to CRISPR technology and vaccines.
