Property and finance lawyer previously worked at McCullough Robertson
Hamilton Locke, a corporate and commercial law firm, has announced that experienced property and finance lawyer Emile McPhee has joined as a partner in the national real estate markets team in the Brisbane office.
“We’re pleased to add another talented partner in Emile to our firm, and to our growing Brisbane office – which will celebrate the milestone in July of four years since launching,” said Nick Humphrey, HPX Group chief executive officer and Hamilton Locke managing partner, in a news release.
McPhee’s work focuses on social and affordable housing, specialist disability accommodation, retirement living, and housing developments and operations of all sizes, according to the news release from Hamilton Locke.
He has represented banks, private lenders, and developers in property financing matters. He has assisted a tier 1 community housing provider with its most extensive Queensland development and an Australian real estate investment and development company with its 475-unit build-to-rent pilot project with the State of Queensland.
In the community housing financing sector, McPhee has advised the industry on developing the Queensland master funding agreement and numerous community housing providers on state, federal, and private financing arrangements.
As an experienced banking and finance lawyer, he has guided financiers, borrowers, and guarantors through financing transactions like off-the-plan property developments, project financing matters, and the roll-out of loan portfolios exceeding $1 billion.
With McPhee’s addition, the firm has 13 partners and 34 lawyers in its Brisbane office, as well as 68 partners and 180 lawyers across Australia.
“Emile is a great fit for us both professionally and personally, with his passion for community partnerships and access to justice reflected in his work and in his broader contribution to the community housing sector and to the legal profession,” Humphrey said in the firm’s news release.
Before joining Hamilton Locke, McPhee worked at McCullough Robertson, an independent Australian law firm, for more than 12 years.
In the news release, Hamilton Locke noted McPhee’s passion for community and access to justice. For instance, he has belonged to the Queensland Law Society’s access to justice and pro bono law committee for years.
McPhee is also a board member of Jacaranda Housing, which aims to offer community housing and reduced rents to vulnerable and low-income individuals in Brisbane, as well as a member of the Urban Development Institute of Australia’s housing supply and affordability committee and the PEXA Queensland Advisory Council.
