Piper Alderman has welcomed financial services expert Karen Fairbairn to the partnership.

Fairbairn joins the firm’s financial services and fintech team in Sydney. She will work alongside partners Shannon Adams, Joshua Annese, Michael Bacina, Andrea Beatty, Greg Conomos and Mark Gordon.

“Our financial services and fintech team continues its growth journey with Karen’s appointment to the partnership,” managing partner Tony Britten-Jones said. “As a respected practitioner in the financial services sector, we look forward to Karen’s collaboration with our team, working closely with Andrea Beatty.”

Having been in practice for 30 years, Fairbairn specialises in banking and commercial law. She regularly assists clients with financial contracts, regulatory issues, restructuring, workouts and distressed debt transactions, and corporate governance.

Moreover, she has extensive expertise in handling matters related to the Personal Property Securities Act, particularly in insolvency practice and securities enforcement matters. She also provides strategic advice to banks and financiers on security reviews and enforcement actions.

Prior to joining Piper Alderman, Fairbairn had a short stint with FCW Lawyers as a principal last year. She also held partner and consultant roles at HWL Ebsworth.

She spent some time in-house as well, serving as legal counsel for the personal property securities reform program of Westpac Banking Corporation.

Fairbairn is an active member of the Banking & Financial Services Law Association and the Women Lawyers Association of NSW.
