Insurance challenger brand Youi has debuted a new leadership role, installing in-house legal leader Russell Redsell as its first-ever chief of corporate affairs and governance.

In the new position, Redsell is set to spearhead the debut and implementation of a new function that Youi said will “oversee corporate and regulatory affairs, legal and governance, including first-line risk and compliance”.

“As Youi continues to grow, this new function under Russell’s leadership is poised to make significant contributions to our business, enabling our company to navigate evolving industry challenges, uphold best practices, and maintain a strong foundation for sustainable growth at a time that climate change is impacting Australia’s insurance market”, CEO Nathaniel Simpson explained.

Redsell has been a key member of the organisation’s executive team since 2018. Throughout his time with Youi, he has served as general counsel, executive general manager - legal and compliance, and acting chief risk officer.

He was key to transforming the company’s in-house legal function, which earned the team a win at the 2022 Australasian Law Awards as In-house Insurance Team of the Year.

Redsell described his appointment as “an exciting new journey” – where, for the first time, his title won’t have the word “legal” in it.

“I look forward to leveraging my experience to establish and grow Youi's newest function, which will be responsible for ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, fostering transparency and accountability with our partners and suppliers, mitigating risks, and safeguarding Youi's brilliant reputation”, he said.

Redsell officially assumes his new position on 1 July.
