The winners of the deal categories of the Australasian Law Awards for 2020 have been announced.

The Australasian Law Awards celebrate excellence across the legal profession in Australia and New Zealand.

Due to the particularly high calibre of nominations this year, several excellence awards have been announced, in addition to the overall winners for each category.

Debt Market Deal of the Year

Winner: Debt acquisition facility to fund Saracen Mineral Holdings's 'Super Pit' acquisition

Excellence award: Amcor Finance and Bemis Company exchange offering
Excellence award: National Australia Bank notes offering

Energy & Resources Deal of the Year

Winner: Mineral Resources sale of lithium assets to Albemarle

Excellence award: ConocoPhillips sale of Australia-West and East Timorese assets to Santos
Excellence award: Woolworths sale of petrol business to EG Group
Excellence award: Kalium Lakes Beyondie Sulphate of Potash Project

Equity Market Deal of the Year

Winner: Westpac capital raising

Excellence award: Tyro Payments IPO
Excellence award: Sezzle IPO

Insolvency & Restructuring Deal of the Year

Winner: Wollongong Coal and Jindal Steel & Power debt restructuring

Excellence award: Retail Food Group restructuring
Excellence award: Wiggins Island Coal Export Terminal restructuring

International Deal of the Year

Winner: Amcor US listing and acquisition of Bemis

Excellence award: Brambles separation of its IFCO business

Congratulations to all the winners and excellence award recipients.

The awards team at Australasian Lawyer will be working with the winners on new ways to celebrate and share their successes with their clients, colleagues and communities.

The awards were due to be announced at a gala dinner in Sydney earlier this year, but unfortunately the event couldn’t take place due to COVID restrictions.

The remainder of the awards will be announced on the following dates:

Individual award winners and excellence awards will be announced on 19 August 2020 at 1pm (AEST)

Firm and in-house award winners and excellence awards will be announced on 20 August 2020 at 1pm (AEST)
